Total read time: 2 minutes
Good Morning Newsie,
Has this happened to you?
You finished writing your newsletter and you see your open rates low or click rates metrics are also low after you sent it to your subscribers.
The culprit? Probably your emails are going directly to the spam folder.
That is why this week I want to share 5 ways to avoid the spam folder and landing in the inbox. Sound good?
1) Don’t buy an email list: Imagine you get an email from someone who, randomly sent you an email to offer you something. How would you feel? Not too happy you are getting random emails that you never opted into. And since lots of people will probably flag your email as spam as well, this will be telling Gmail that future emails from you should go to the spam folder.
2) Avoid using exclamation marks in your subject lines: This is a simple tip: I see many emails do and end up in the spam folder. Email providers like Gmail have been trained to not land emails with exclamation marks into the spam folder.
3) Tell your subscriber to add you: You probably noticed in my welcome email I did this and told you to move my welcome email to the inbox (if it landed in the spam folder) This will make sure to tell email providers that you want to get emails from me and you don’t want to miss any emails.
4) Don’t use spammy words in your subject line: Avoid using any spammy words when you are writing your subject line. A lot of spammers are trying to spam the systems but Gmail is getting better at filtering out these emails and sending them to the spam folder instead. Here is a list of 188 words to avoid.
5) Sends good engaging emails: This means sending good content to your subscribers that make them want to open your email. Doing this, and getting good open rates or click rates tells Gmail that yes you are a high-quality email that they want to see in their inbox.
By following these simple actionable tips, you are on your way to landing in the inbox and not the spam folder.
